Salaam Alaikum Everyone!
This week my Friday Gratitude is on Health. I’ve been down with a cold all week, and more recently I’ve started developing rashes and painful bumps as well so please pray for me. One of the reasons why I hate getting sick is because I can be annoying to be around. I think I kept waking the whole house up earlier this week when I had difficulty sleeping because of build ups in my throat. While it might sound dreary, getting sick is often a great reminder of how much we take for granted. We’re generally so used to waking up every day with good health that sometimes we forget to be thankful for the way our body harmoniously functions. The hadith below was a great reminder throughout the week for me to be in a state of gratitude even with sickness.
Ibn Mas’ud said: “I visited the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while he had a fever. I exclaimed: ‘O Messenger of Allah! You have a high fever! ‘ He said: ‘My fever is as much as two among you [might have]. ‘ I asked: ‘Is it because you have a double reward?’ He replied: ‘Yes, that is right. No Muslim is afflicted with any hurt, even if it is no more than the pricking of a thorn, but Allah wipes off his sins because of it and his sins fall away from him as leaves fall from a tree‘.” Bukhari 7:564
This hadith beautifully reflects the mercy of Allah SWT and one of the best things about Islam is that it encourages us to have a positive outlook about all our experiences. So less complaining and more gratitude!
‘And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor] – Qur’an 14:7
Hope you’ve all had a great week!
